Please describe the problem.
I'm not entirely sure what I did. Maybe add files with weird names and I copied a lot of files with cp -rL
What steps will reproduce the problem?
No idea.
What version of git-annex are you using? On what operating system?
git-annex version: 8.20210803-g9cae7c5bb Archlinux, up to date.
Please provide any additional information below.
# If you can, paste a complete transcript of the problem occurring here.
# If the problem is with the git-annex assistant, paste in .git/annex/daemon.log
Basically, everything I do is answered with the error mentioned in the title.
[alex@proliant bannex]$ git annex fix
[alex@proliant bannex]$ git annex add .
git-annex: readDirStream: inappropriate type (Bad message)
[alex@proliant bannex]$ git annex sync
git-annex: readDirStream: inappropriate type (Bad message)
[alex@proliant bannex]$ git annex fsck
git-annex: readDirStream: inappropriate type (Bad message)
# End of transcript or log.
Have you had any luck using git-annex before? (Sometimes we get tired of reading bug reports all day and a lil' positive end note does wonders)
Yes. This is my third attempt at getting git-annex running. Conceptually, I think it's the best thing out there. I've had some success at moving around data. But I tend to end up in these dead ends...
It seems likely to me that the directory you're trying to use git-annex in either no longer exists, or is in some other strange state.
I can get close to this error message by asking for the contents of the directory "/etc/passwd". Of course, that file is not a directory.
I have not found a way to make readDirStream throw the error, but this shows that the problem is basically something to do with getting directory contents.
stracing git-annex might shed some more light on how the
readdir()
syscall is failing.
